About Golden Age Portraits
Timeless, heirloom-quality portraits honoring the lives, stories, and presence of our elders.
Our Story
Golden Age Portraits began as part of my lifelong journey behind the camera. Fourteen years ago, I was the photographer for a site I co-founded called NorCal Country, where I photographed country music concerts throughout Northern California. What started with press passes and concert photography soon grew into friends and family asking me to capture their portraits and weddings.
But the idea for Golden Age Portraits was planted years earlier. My mom worked at our local church for over 30 years and often organized funerals. She noticed how many families didn’t have meaningful portraits of their loved ones to display—only snapshots or outdated pictures. She once told me, half-joking but completely serious, “You should go into retirement communities and offer picture days, like school portraits for seniors.” At the time, I laughed—but she was right.
Through a connection at the Veteran’s Home in Yountville, I eventually organized three full days of portrait sessions for residents. Over 300 portraits later, given completely free of charge, I realized just how special it was. Residents cherished the experience, families treasured the images, and the community saw firsthand how important it is to preserve legacies in a beautiful, dignified way.
Why Elders?
I grew up working in my mom’s restaurant in Napa, where many of our regulars were elderly. I loved hearing their stories and sharing time with them. Later, in college, I studied psychology with a focus on aging, nearly completing a minor in gerontology. I’ve always felt a pull toward serving the elder population, and I believe deeply in my mom’s words: “They are walking libraries, full of history, and our time with them is limited.”
In today’s photography world, many specialize in newborns, families, or high school seniors. Yet almost no one is dedicated to portraits of our elders. Golden Age Portraits fills that gap—with care, respect, and artistry.
Our Mission
To create timeless, heirloom-quality portraits that honor the lives, stories, and presence of our elders. These portraits are for the individuals themselves—to see their dignity reflected back to them—and for their loved ones to cherish during their lifetime and beyond.
